No, it doesn’t!

Have you ever experienced brain freeze when replying?

Felt put on the spot when dealing with Q and A?

Find you repeat yourself when saying something?

Just felt like the message didn’t get across?

These and more are common experiences when communicating with others!

So, how can we get around these challenges?

Try this technique with a friend or colleague:

First, tell them about yourself - you have 1 minute to complete this. Then, let your friend/colleague have a go.

Note down out of 10:

  • Was your message clear?

  • How structured was your message?

  • How confident were you?

Note down 5 interests that you have then get your friend/colleague to choose three of them - these will become your talking points.

Now, try it out with using a structured approach with 1 minute to complete this - what should this look like?

“Hi, my name is X and I’d like to talk to you about my interests which are 1, 2 and 3.

1 - talk about why this is an interest to you

2 - talk about why this is an interest to you

3 - talk about why this is an interest to you”

Reevaluate your delivery out of 10 for the points above.

Notice a difference?

Using a framework to build our responses around makes a significant difference when communicating ideas. It keeps us focused in our delivery and makes it easier for our listener to take on board the information.

This creates Impact with your communication.

The structure above is part of a format that can be used in many different situations to quickly form our responses….and allows us to be responsive and flexible in those informal conversations! We can Think On Our Feet!

This is one of a range of techniques that you can use to speak with Clarity, Brevity and Impact. You can find more information here!
